Cupuaçu butter is extracted by cold pressing the fruit seed of this native tropical rainforest tree, related to cacao. Although a member of the chocolate family, cupuaçu butter does not contain theobromin and can be used by anyone to whom stimulants are forbidden. It is native to South America and common in the amazon basin. Also known as cupuassu, cupuazú, cupu assu, and copoasu, it is widely cultivated in the jungles of Brazil, Columbia, Bolivia and Peru. Prized for its rich content of phytosterols, cupuaçu butter is an effective plant alternative to lanolin. It offers superior ability to improve the skin's natural moisture barrier due to its documented water-retention capacity of 240% it's own weight. It also flaunts an impressive share of omega fatty acids (primarily a healthy ratio of 3 to 6) and an even more impressive abundance of anti-oxidizing polyphenols found to exist nowhere else in nature.
